Great Blanketflower | Original Gouache Floral Painting
I love the feeling of walking through a meadow of grasses and wildflowers. As a child, I would wander through my grandmother’s fields and pick bouquets of wildflowers for my own mom.
Great Blanketflower is one of my very favourites, but to be completely honest with you, I had to look up the name. This flower is so similar to the bright and cheery Black Eyed Susan but its centre is red instead of black.
This painting first began with a sketch, a transparent layer of watercolour, layers upon layers of gouache to get the colours just right, and then an ink sketch to complete the painting.
