Encinitas Coastal Watercolor Print Framed in Solid Oak

Hello art lover…

All of my kids are officially back to school and I am back to work in a more full-time position. It's always a little bittersweet to return to our normal rhythms but it feels good to tackle the giant list that has been accumulating on my phone of all the things I need to accomplish in my studio practice.

August was a very full month spent in Chicago and Southern California. Time spent with family, exploring new places, soaking in sunshine, creating new work, and celebrating my nephews wedding. It was perfect!

My brother absolutely spoiled us while we were in Chicago. Taking us to all of the museums, tours, and sharing his favourite local restaurants. I'm always so inspired after a day at the Art Institute. This time my kids were in tow, and I thought they would be miserably bored, but my youngest thoroughly enjoyed the Thorne miniature rooms installation, and my oldest boys were obsessed with the arms and armour rooms, taking pictures to look as though they were holding each weapon. My favourites were the paintings, of course! I love to bask in the artwork of so many masters, studying their brushstrokes, dots, colour choices, and markings as closely as I possibly can. The Caillebotte exhibit was especially incredible.

I left feeling with the endless desire to continue creating and to master my craft, something that I know will take a lifetime.

Carlsbad Coast in August

Carlsbad Coast in August

It was such a dream to spend time in California in August. The Pacific Ocean was the perfect temperature to really enjoy swimming with my children. I was very intentional with my time spent between nature and the work of creation.

It's caused me to reflect on my time at home. Some days feel like I'm just getting through the day. I'm trying to be more intentional with my time and with my role as a mother since returning home. My oldest boys are in grade 12 now and will be off on their own adventures in about a year. It's really made me pause and refocus my attention on the memories I want to create with them and the things I need to teach them while I still can.

"Children are not a distraction from more important work. They are the most important work." In the end, the legacy that matters won't be what you built in the world. It will be who you raised and whether they felt safe, seen, and loved in your presence.

Wild Pacific Collection

I was able to continue my work on the Wild Pacific Collection inspired by Tofino while I was away. I created another large sunset piece, but I have hesitated adding the silhouettes of the people on the beach, worried I will ruin it. I've been practicing in my sketchbook and I just need to take the plunge. I'm debating about adding one more painting inspired by Long Beach, but I'm sure this collection will be done soon. I hope the long awaited anticipation will be well worth it. I can't wait to share it with you!

Stay tuned for release date information!

September's Featured Original:

“Autumn's Glow”

With Autumn right around the corner, I thought I would share this little painting that celebrates the beauty of Fall in the Rockies. What began as a small sketch, that I promised myself would never be sold, became a beautiful framed original. Like vintage postcards sent from time spent in the Canadian Rockies, this gouache painting holds a sense of nostalgia that can only be found in the peace of the mountains. This painting is my representation of Policeman’s Creek in Canmore in the Fall.

Only 2 of the original Mountain Sketches remain. I have loved sharing these little beauties from the Canadian Rockies with you.

September's Featured Print:

"Carlsbad Summer"

While on vacation in Southern California last month, I snuck in a little painting time to create my latest print inspired by hot summer days spent swimming in the warmth of the Pacific Ocean.

Celebrate the laid-back beauty of summer on the Southern California coastline with this new watercolour print inspired by beautiful days spent under a turquoise umbrella soaking up the warmth of summer, the Pacific’s deep blue ocean, and the coastal charm of this beloved seaside town. This piece captures the essence of Carlsbad’s coastline with crashing waves, sandy shores, and summer fun, bringing the peace of a beachside stroll into your space.

If you are interested in collecting the original painting, please respond to this email. I am considering sending it off to a local retailer in Encinitas, CA.
