Creating Pigment from rocks found at Swami’s Beach

February is technically the shortest month of the year, but it sure seems like the longest.

Immediately upon our return from Southern California, we were greeted with a cold snap in Alberta. I'm talking about a 40 degree difference in temperature. This was made even worse with a high efficiency furnace that just can't seem to keep up to Canadian winters. Picture me wearing toques and sweaters all day long in the house, having to pulll myself out of bed in the middle of the night and reset my furnace in my robe. This is not my idea of a good night sleep, and honestly, these are the times when a husband would come in handy, lol.

I completed the largest watercolour commission I have ever painted in February, and I am very happy with the way it turned out! (see below)

Near the end of the month, I taught a watercolour landscape workshop for 22 women who really had no experience painting, and we had such a great time. It takes so much bravery to do something outside your comfort zone, but it was really such a fun experience for everyone.

I wanted to say thank you to everyone who shopped the Seconds Sale and helped me clear out some prints that have been taking up space in my studio for the last year. It was so good to be able to send out some artwork at a really great price. I can't wait to see how you hang them in your homes.

I've been working behind the scenes on improving my website, writing more blogs posts, and creating some Frame TV files for you. Be sure to keep an eye out for some exciting, informative things in the near future!

When I took the leap to become a full-time artist 6 years ago, I was confident in my ability to create a beautiful painting, but I wasn't confident in how to sell and all of the steps involved including photography, creating a website, finding an audience for my work, and making it shine.

I looked to other artists who were ahead of me in their careers to teach me all of their expertise. Emily Jeffords was a wealth of knowledge for me in the very early stages of my career. I learned so much from her in her course Making Art Work

Emily is hosting a free workshop each day next week called Share the Work. It's a very condensed version of her knowledge and she will guide you through the struggles that every artist faces. I still like to tune in each year because she is such a great teacher. You're not going to want to miss it!

“Searching for Treasures”

Imagine you're driving down highway 101 after a beautiful day at the beach. The windows are open, you're listening to your favourite song with all of your favourite people in the car. The warm, salty air of the coast is blowing through your hair. You can't help but stare at the beautiful glow of an ever-changing sunset on the west coast.

This is the joy of life!

This painting flowed into creation after the most refreshing trip to Southern California during the winter of 2023. I spent almost every day at the beach, no matter the weather, soaking in the peaceful sounds of gentle waves, exploring tide pools, and gathering little treasures in the washed up winter beaches.

“Spring in the Rockies”

Emerald Lake is like stepping into a different world. There is a real sense of peace and calm and pure magic as the fog rolls through the mountains during the Spring thaw. The shock of feeling alive as you plunge into ice cold, glacier water. Memories so sweet you could bottle them up. And the feeling of sweet blissful peace that can only be found in nature. I'm so looking forward to Springtime in the Rockies.

Art has a way of capturing a place in time, transporting you to a specific location, offering reverence to nature's beauty, and bringing nature's abundant peace and calm into your personal sanctuary.

I hope you feel the renewed energy of Spring. Thank you for supporting me and my family in this glorious career of creating.

I am so grateful for you!
