June Studio Newsletter
I've been thinking about you a lot lately, especially how to build more of a connection between you, my daily rhythm and my work.
I'm aging myself here, but do you remember the feeling of creating a special mix tape specifically for one of your favourite people? Choosing the perfect songs, full of the best memories of time spent together. Creating the coolest jacket for the tape deck full of photos, art, and the list of songs. Do you remember receiving mix tapes and how special you felt?! This was one of my favourite gifts in high school!
A mix tape isn’t just a collection of songs. It’s a gift of attention, memory, and emotion—crafted just for someone you care about.
This is exactly the kind of intimacy I want to offer you as a monthly glimpse into my studio practice. I basically want to write to you just like my penpal from the 80's. I hope it will feel natural (not forced or awkward), fill your month with inspiration, and give you a deeper glimpse into my daily rhythm.
Walking along the banks of the Elbow River
Spring is by far my favourite season and has brought so much refreshing energy into my life and creative practice. My youngest son and I have been taking daily walks through the forest lately. He rides his bike, and I follow behind him on the paths that meander through the dense trees. We love to find special places to pause and notice the beauty of Spring and the many shades of green. He stops to throw rocks in the river while he waits for me, we imagine building our own fairy villages in the mossy forest floor, and pause to inhale the amazing scent of freshly mulched spruce trees (I'm honestly considering bottling this for perfume).
Who knew that consistent time in nature would feel so good and provide so much refreshment?! I'm so thankful I challenged myself to spend each day in nature for 30 days.
“Today”
A Poem By Billy Collins
If ever there were a spring day so perfect,
so uplifted by a warm intermittent breeze
that it made you want to throw
open all the windows in the house
and unlatch the door to the canary's cage,
indeed, rip the little door from its jamb,
a day when the cool brick paths
and the garden bursting with peonies
seemed so etched in sunlight
that you felt like taking
a hammer to the glass paperweight
on the living room end table,
releasing the inhabitants
from their snow-covered cottage
so they could walk out,
holding hands and squinting
into this larger dome of blue and white,
well, today is just that kind of day.

Wild Pacific
I've been enjoying the slow process of creating my next collection Wild Pacific which I'm hoping to release sometime this month. I'm thinking Summer Solstice would be a beautiful time to release a collection of paintings inspired by summer days spent on the Western Canadian Coast, but we'll see how timing works out.
I feel like I have one more painting remaining in this collection that I want to experiment with. I'm not quite sure if it will work out, but I'm excited to try something new in my creative process. As a hint, it involves adding a bit of life into my work. I'll be sure to keep you posted in this space for release dates and final looks. I'm loving each piece in the collection so far and I'm excited to share this new body of work with you.
I wanted to talk to you about something a little bit more vulnerable within my business. Earlier this year I declared that 2025 would be the year to Thrive! I've been working hard on the back end of my business to set up systems that work for me behind the scenes, but I've spent most of the first half of the year wondering if I've completely jinxed myself. (How is it already JUNE?!)
The universe might have had an idea that I needed to learn to thrive in other ways. Perhaps I'm in the process of building, creating systems that will allow me to thrive at a later time much like a caterpillar building a cocoon.
I'm not sure if it's just my focus, if it's because we experienced new elections in both the US and Canada, or the impending doom of tariffs, but I've been feeling very much at a loss as to how to create a business that thrives in this current climate. Especially one that is so heart felt and soft centred.
The word I feel I need to emphasize at this moment in my business is nimble. Running a creative business is not for the faint of heart. Adaptability is required in every aspect of my work. In the meantime, I'm still here. I'm still creating, and I'm still moving forward. I just might need to get a second job to continue to do what I love most.
And to my American collectors, I don't blame you if you are confused by the recent tariffs. It feels like things are changing each week. To ease your concerns, any order under $800 continues to ship duty free, and original Canadian Artwork is part of USMCA/CUSMA, meaning it is and always has been exempt from duties/tariffs.

This image perfectly captures the colours reflecting on the ocean and the magic of the warm glow of sunset on the coast of California. Reflecting all of the colours of the rainbow in its waters. The feeling of the cool, ocean breeze and the warm light felt on your face as the sun turns to rose just before it sinks below the sea.
Adding art to your Frame TV is the simplest way to update the look and feel of your home.
Art has a special way of capturing nature's abundant peace and calm and welcoming it into your personal sanctuary. Look at how beautiful these prints look in Joelle's space.
